Positive Behavior Expectations Matching Game
Make field trip expectations engaging, interactive, and easy to review with PBIS Memory Cards: Field Trip Edition! This student-friendly matching game helps students recognize common behavior challenges that can happen away from school and connect each one with an appropriate corrective action, replacement behavior, or responsible next step.
Students encounter realistic field trip situations such as wandering away from a chaperone, leaning over safety barriers, arguing about bus seating, using unkind words with venue staff, getting off the bus before being dismissed, touching exhibits marked “Do Not Touch,” and arriving late to a designated meeting point. More Than a Traditional Memory Game
This activity combines the fun of a classic memory game with meaningful PBIS instruction.
Students work to make the connection:
Field Trip Behavior → Responsible Response
When students find a matching pair, extend the learning with questions such as:
What made this behavior unsafe, disrespectful, or irresponsible?
Who could be affected by this choice?
What should the student do differently next time?
What would the expected behavior look like on an actual field trip?
Corrective cards encourage students to practice real replacement behaviors, including using an appropriate Level 1 voice, picking up items that were knocked over, keeping hands to themselves around exhibits, asking permission before leaving the group, and staying focused on the person directly ahead while walking in line. Easy to Prepare & Play
Simply print, cut, shuffle, and play!
For extra durability, print the cards on cardstock and laminate them for repeated use.
For traditional memory play, place all cards face down. Students turn over two cards at a time and try to match a field trip behavior scenario with its corresponding corrective-action card. When a correct match is found, the student keeps the pair.
The cards can also be used for sorting activities, role-play, discussion prompts, partner challenges, small-group intervention, pre-trip review, or whole-class PBIS instruction.
Prepare Students Before Leaving Campus
Field trips provide exciting opportunities for learning—but they also require students to apply school expectations in unfamiliar settings.
PBIS Memory Cards: Field Trip Edition gives students a fun and meaningful way to practice those expectations before the trip begins. Students learn how to stay with their group, respect public spaces, follow safety procedures, interact appropriately with community members, and take responsibility when mistakes happen.
Help students carry Safe, Respectful, and Responsible behavior with them wherever learning takes them!
