PBIS Sort It! Aha or Oops? – On the Bus Edition
Teach bus expectations in a way students can actually practice, discuss, and remember with PBIS Sort It! Aha or Oops? – On the Bus Edition!
This hands-on PBIS sorting game helps students think through realistic school bus behaviors and decide whether each one is an “Aha!” choice that shows safe, respectful, and responsible behavior—or an “Oops!” choice that needs to change.
Students sort each behavior card onto the colorful Aha! or Oops! board and explain their reasoning, turning everyday bus expectations into meaningful conversations about safety, responsibility, self-control, and respect.
The set reinforces important bus behaviors such as staying seated and facing forward, using an appropriate voice level, keeping the aisle clear, following the bus driver’s directions, and keeping hands and feet to yourself. PBIS Sort It- On the Bus-Final

How to Play
Print, cut, and laminate the cards for repeated use.
Place the Aha! / Oops! sorting board in front of students.
Select one behavior card at a time and read it aloud.
Students decide whether the behavior belongs on:
Aha! – Great Choice
or
Oops! – A Choice That Needs to Change
After sorting the card, ask students to explain why they chose that category.
For every Oops! behavior, challenge students to answer:
“How could we turn this Oops into an Aha?”
For example:
“Stand up while the bus is moving” becomes
“Stay seated and face forward until the bus has stopped.”
This helps students move beyond simply identifying inappropriate behavior and practice naming the positive replacement behavior they should use instead.

Why Teachers Will Love It
School bus expectations are important, but students often hear them only as a list of rules. PBIS Sort It! On the Bus Edition gives students a chance to actively think about what those expectations look like in real situations.
Students are asked to sort, explain, correct, and reflect on behavior choices, helping them build a stronger understanding of how their actions affect the bus driver, other students, and everyone’s safety.
The simple Aha! versus Oops! format is easy for elementary students to understand while still supporting deeper conversations about responsibility, respect, and safe transportation choices.
Print it, laminate it, and use it throughout the year to reinforce one clear message:
Safe rides start with smart choices.
